REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS ACTION: Columbia was last in action over the weekend of Nov. 23-24, where they made a trip west to face the Stanford Cardinal and take part in the Roadrunner Open. While in Palo Alto, California, the Lions nearly knocked off the Cardinal, taking five wins, including the final two, on their way to a tough and close 21-19 loss at Stanford.
The next day, Nov. 24, the Lions went to Bakersfield, California to take part in the Roadrunner Open, hosted by CSU-Bakersfield, where they placed nine, which included Manchio taking the title at 125 pounds. Along with Manchio, sophomore Matt Kazimir (second place/141 pounds), first-year Lennox Wolak (second place/174 pounds), first-year Angelo Rini (third place/125 pounds), first-year Trent Svingala (fourth place/133 pounds), sophomore Danny Conley (fourth place/285 pounds), first-year Riley Jacops (fifth place/157 pounds), sophomore Sam Wustefeld (fifth place/197 pounds) and first-year Kyle Mosher (sixth place/165 pounds) all placed giving Columbia nine placers in a successful Roadrunner Open.
RANKED LIONS: Following their strong performance over the weekend in California, Manchio entered the realm of the ranked, having gone 6-0 while knocking off the then-ranked No. 14 125-pounder in the nation against Stanford along with his title at the Roadrunner Open, while Kazimir's 5-1 weekend and second place finish at the Roadrunner Open allowed him to stay put in the rankings where he has been since his title at the Princeton Open (Nov. 3).
For Manchio, he enters the weekend ranked as the No. 16 125-pounder in the nation by Trackwrestling, having fallen a few spots from the No. 11 ranking he earned after the California weekend due to Columbia not competing this weekend. As for Kazimir, his rank remains the same, having earned the No. 19 ranking by Amateur Wrestling News earlier in the month.
