NEW HAVEN CONN.- Columbia fencing finished the first day of the Ivy League Championships on top of the leader board with perfect 4-0 records. The Lions topped Brown, Harvard, Yale and Princeton today.
The Lions began the day against Brown and made quick work of the Bears. The women's team finished 22-5, with
Violet Michel (sabre) and
Iman Blow (foil) winning all three of their bouts this round. On the men's side of the competition, the Lions jumped ahead marking a 21-6 round.
Andrew Doddo (sabre),
Dawson Sieradzky (sabre) and
Nolen Scruggs (foil) also marking perfect 3-0 rounds.
Next up for Columbia was Harvard. The men fought to keep ahead of the Crimson, and narrowly pulled out the 14-13 win. The women found themselves in a better position, finishing 18-9 against the Ivy League rival.
Yale was up as the round three opponent. The women's squad took home a 20-7 matchup, and the men downed Yale 16-11.

Ilana Solomon (sabre),
Nolen Scruggs (foil) and
Sylvie Binder (foil) finished the rounds undefeated 3-0. Columbia was now up 3-0 on the competition.
The last school to face Columbia on Saturday was Princeton Tigers. Columbia women topped Princeton 15-12, and the men clinched the day with a swift 20-7.
Tomorrow, Columbia faces Penn on both the men's and women's strips, and Cornell's women's team. The official champions of this year's tournament will be decided tomorrow. The first round of competition begins at 10 a.m., and will start off with the women's team against Cornell.
