NEW YORK—Quarterbacks
Josh Bean,
Ty Lenhart,
John Foreback and
Matt Dame combined to throw for two touchdowns and 181 yards during Columbia Football's annual Spring Game Saturday afternoon at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium. Afterward, the Columbia Football Players Club sponsored its annual spring alumni and team barbecue under the main grandstand.
The simulated game featured 62 total plays from scrimmage as Columbia's offense totaled 265 yards on 62 plays for an average 4.3 yards gained per play. Each quarterback was given several series opportunities to run the offense. Sophomore
Josh Bean threw for 91 yards on 5-11 completions and found junior
Kaleb Pitts for a 23-yard touchdown pass, first-year
Ty Lenhart completed 4-8 passes for 48 yards and a 19-yard touchdown pass to junior
Rory Schlageter, Dame finished 3-5 for 38 yards passing and Foreback completed a pass for four yards.
Sophomore wide receiver
Emerson Kabus caught two passes for a game-high 45 receiving yards, including a game-long 38-yard reception from Bean and Schlageter caught two passes for 29 yards and a TD. First-year
Dante Miller rushed eight times for 27 yards including a 15-yarder, first-year
Ryan Young rushed for 25 yards on four attempts, including a 15-yarder, and sophomore
Marquavious Moore rushed for 27 yards on nine carries.
Columbia's defense also registered several highlights. Sophomore
Ben Mathiasmeier intercepted a pass and returned it 87 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore
Will Allen also intercepted a pass, first-year
Paul Akere and sophomore
Luke Adams both totaled tackles for losses and first-year
Jordan Colbert intercepted a pass which was called back due to penalty. On the scrimmage's first pass play, sophomore
Blake Wooden forced a fumble and recovered the ball on the same play.
The Lions started the day with the punt game as sophomore
Drew Schmid got his workout in. Then Columbia then went through 16 plays of third down offense vs. third down defense before beginning the regular scrimmage. The Lions did not practice kickoffs, field goals or PATs. Columbia's 75-minute scrimmage featured 33 rushing plays and 29 pass plays.
After Saturday, the next time Columbia Football will gather for a full practice as a team will be in mid-to-late August. The Lions will welcome the 2019 freshman class to campus in August prior to its season opener at Saint Francis U (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Columbia completed its 2018 season with a 6-4 overall and 3-4 Ivy League record despite overcoming injuries to over 25 key players. The Lions registered back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1961 and 1962. Columbia has amassed 14 victories over the last two seasons, its highest win total in consecutive years since the institution joined the Ivy League in 1956. In addition, its six overall victories rank among the top-five season win totals at Columbia since 1956.
