Hassan Places Fourth In Triple Jump To Lead Columbia In Rainy Second Day At The IC4A/ECAC Championships
5/12/2019 3:56:00 PM | Track and Field
Hassan's top finish gives Columbia three top-5 finishes on the weekend.
PRINCETON, N.J.— It was wet, windy and cold, but that did not stop Maryam Hassan from showing up to perform, recording a mark of 12.12m in the triple jump to finish fourth, pacing Columbia Track and Field at the second and final day of the IC4A/ECAC Championships held at Weaver Stadium.
Overall on the weekend, Columbia had four top-15 finishes, including three top-5 finishes. On Saturday, Jack Pihlkar recorded a mark of 62.30m in the hammer throw, finishing third, and Annie Fanta finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:21.44.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS): Hassan hit the mark on her second attempt, as the poor conditions would not stop her from scoring a top finish for Columbia. It was the best finish of the day for any Columbia student-athlete and overall in the weekend the second-best finish in any event.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN'S FIELD EVENTS): In the discus throw, Hunter Hasley finished 23rd in the only event competed by the Columbia men. Hasley recorded a mark of 40.71m in the event.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS): Cameron Downey competed in the discus throw, tossing a mark of 34.11m to finish 27th. The discus throw was the final event on a rainy and cold day at Weaver Stadium for Columbia Track and Field.
