Outdoor Track and Field Begins Season at USF and Penn

Lions earn sprint victory, multiple throws podium finishes
Alumni Invitational and Penn Challenge. The Lions had strong showings at both events, highlighted by a sprint victory and multiple podium finishes in throws.
USF Alumni Invitational
Senior Haydn Brotschi delivered a dominant performance, blazing to a first-place finish in the men's 400m dash with a time of 45.90.
Columbia's relay squads continued to build momentum, with the men's 4x400 relay turning in a 3:10.86 performance to place seventh, while the 4x100 relay also secured a top-eight finish.
In the field, first-year Gavin Holcombe cleared 4.40m in the pole vault to finish ninth, and sophomore Viktoria Mihaylova added a ninth-place mark of 12.24m in the triple jump.
Penn Challenge
The throws group led the way with multiple podium finishes as first-year Catalina Holliday captured the women's shot put title with a mark of 12.12m.
Senior Jada Mia Puryear followed with a second-place finish in the discus (29.02m), while freshman Mia Hoskins placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.90m.
On the men's side, sophomore Anthony Colucci recorded a sixth-place finish in the hammer (50.18m), and first-year Marcus Blasucci continued his strong debut campaign with a fourth-place mark of 16.59m in the shot put.
Junior Zuriel Padua-Serrano led the javelin group with a fifth-place throw of 35.90m, followed by first-year Ella Farley in ninth.
On the track, first-year Tibor Barankay placed eighth in the men's 3000m with a time of 8:30.73.
UP NEXT
Columbia will split its squad next weekend, continuing competition at two meets along the East Coast. The Lions are slated to compete at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday, March 26, and Friday, March 27, while another group will travel to Annapolis, Maryland, for the Navy Outdoor Invitational, set to begin Saturday at 10 a.m.
