ORLANDO, Fla. — Columbia sophomore
Jack Lin wrapped up his run in the 2019 NCAA Division I Singles Championship, dropping a hard-fought match to Mississippi State's Giovanni Oradini on Wednesday evening at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
Â
The first set was back-and-forth to begin, but after being knotted at 2-2, Lin won four of the next five games to gain the early advantage. Oradini would come back and claim the second set, 6-4, sending the match to a decisive third. After trailing 5-3, Lin would battle to take one game back, but Oradini held serve to ultimately take the match and advance to tomorrow's quarterfinal.
Â
With his second-round win on Tuesday, Lin became the fifth All-American in program history and the first since Winston Lin '15CC advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament in 2015.
Â
Lin ends the season with an overall 28-8 mark in singles competition. He was named the 2019 ITA Northeast Region Player to Watch in addition to earning All-Ivy League singles and doubles selections.
