Lions Reign at Penn Invitational Finishing 9-1

The men finished 4-0 in the rounds they competed in; the women finished 4-1
PHILADELPHIA – Coming in from Saturday's challenging competition at the St. John's Cup, the Columbia Lions competed in the Philadelphia Invite hosted by Penn on Sunday. Some teams to join the Lions in this competition were Ohio State, Notre Dame, Northwestern, St.John's, Wayne State and Brandeis.
How The Men Finished
The men won 19-8 over Notre Dame. In foil, Sidarth Kumbla finished undefeated, 3-0. Holding down epee was sophomore Teddy Lombardo, who went 2-1 against Harrison Kimatian and Darius Zacharakis. In champion fashion, the sabres carried the win for the men. Breakout performances by Andrew Doddo and Christopher Walker led the squad, both going undefeated at 3-0. The men glided through the competition against Ohio State to win by five, 16-11. Moelis, Kumbla, and Zheng finished 8-1 only dropping one match. All squads had an exceptional performance against Brandeis, winning, 20-7. James Bourtis went undefeated in foil, 3-0. Coming back from yesterday's meet, the men beat St. John's, 17-10. `
How The Women Finished
The women competed strong against Notre Dame, coming short of the win, 10-17. Sabre propelled the team forward in competition scoring, 6-3, over the Irish. Daniella Timofeyev shined, going undefeated against Reghan Ward, Kara Linder, and Regina O'Brien. The women redeemed themselves from yesterday by defeating Ohio State by five, 16-11. Breaking through the competition was sabre, which went 7-2. The women held down the lead with Timofeyev finishing undefeated and Michel only losing one match. The women continued the momentum by defeating Brandeis, 19-8. Epee carried the weight with a clean score, 9-0.
