NEW YORK – Sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Schlageter made a career-high 15 saves, but the Columbia women's lacrosse team fell, 16-7, to the visiting Army Black Knights in the on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.

Five different Lions scored in the season-opener, including two goals apiece from sophomore midfielder
Katie Lutz and senior midfielder
Brailey Faris. For Faris, the two goals marked the first of her Columbia career, while Lutz matched her career best.

Army (2-0) scored the first goal of the game less than a minute into action, but Columbia equalized when junior attacker
Alexandria Absey converted a free-position goal at the 27:15 mark. The Black Knights would go on to score five-straight goals before the Lions would score three consecutive goals of their own, kickstarted by an 8-meter goal from Lutz with 10:36 left in the half. Junior midfielder
Devon Stuzin would tack on a goal with an assist from Absey before Faris made it a two-score game with 7:52 on the clock. Another 3-0 run from Army would give the Black Knights a 9-4 edge at the halftime break.

Coming out of the locker room, the teams would trade goals for the first 20 minutes until the Black Knights ended the game with four-straight to seal things up.

Schlageter played all 60 minutes in goal for Columbia, eclipsing double-digit saves for the first time in her career with the Lions.

Columbia will hit the road for back-to-back road games next week, traveling to face Fairfield on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before heading to play Siena on Saturday at noon.
