What sport do you play?
Heavyweight Rowing
What do you like most about New York City?
You could live here for 100 years and never get close to finding all the cool parts of the city.
Who is your role model and Why?
My parents - they're compassionate, hardworking, always trying to help others and be better versions of themselves.
What do you like most about your coach?
They make real efforts to get better, the same that they expect of us.
How do you prepare for a race?
A healthy balance of getting psyched up and staying calm/level-headed. Music and controlled breathing is helpful.
Why do you play your sport? Best part about competing in your sport?
I love rowing because it's the ultimate team sport. No one ever says, 'This rower had a great race.' We row as one boat, succeed together and fail together. At the end of the day, everyone is working towards the same goal: making boats go fast.
Favorite sport memory?
Walking through Penn after being down by over a boat length at the 1,000-meter mark at last year's Childs Cup.
Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get the nickname?
Herron. It's hard to use your first name when (at our peak) we had four people named Alex on the team.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of athletics?
Rock climbing, running, skiing, hiking and cooking
What secret talent do you have that not everyone else knows about?
Once held my breath for three minutes.

Apocalypse Now

Steve Carell
Favorite food?
Nothing quite like a good deli sandwich
Favorite home-cooked meal?
Grandma makes the best brisket
