NEW YORK — Three Columbia divers will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia, this week to compete at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. The three-day event, which serves as the qualifying meet for the NCAA Championships, will run March 9-11 at West Virginia's Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
Live scoring for the event will be available via divemeets.com.
"Unfortunately, Ben Blzard fractured a bone in his hand during training this past week and will not be able to compete at Zones," said Columbia head diving coach Scott Donie. "While this is obviously a setback, we are excited about the three women that will be attending and competing.
"Coming off our most successful performance at the women's Ivy League Championships, I'm eager to see how we stand up against some of the best divers around the country."
First-year Livy Poulin will compete for the Lions on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard, sophomore Briget Rosendahl will take on 3-meter and platform, and sophomore Michelle Lee will compete in 1-meter and platform.
The top 18 scorers from each opening round will advance to the finals, with the scores carrying over. The number of automatic qualifiers varies for each event, and can be seen below. Additionally, if an individual qualifies in one event and finishes in the top-12 of another, he/she will be permitted to compete in the additional event at the NCAA Championships.
To qualify for the Zone Championships, divers must have recorded zone qualifying scores throughout the season. Divers in Zone A come from all Division I institutions throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The women's NCAA Championships will be held in Athens, Georgia, at Georgia's Gabrielsen Natatorium, March 18-21.
