
Football Adds Two to Coaching Staff

Michael DeFazio ‘06CC is named Columbia’s Director of Player Personnel and Connor Fite is the Lion’s new Director of Social Media/Assistant Director of Player Personnel.
NEW YORK—Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Al Bagnoli announced the appointment of two new coaching staff members Wednesday as former Lions player Michael DeFazio '06CC is Columbia's new Director of Player Personnel and Connor Fite is its Director of Social Media/Assistant Director of Player Personnel.
DeFazio joins the Columbia Football program after serving the last 10 years as the Head Football Coach, Head Baseball Coach, Strength & Conditioning Coach and teacher at KIPP NYC College Prep in the South Bronx, N.Y. Over his 10 years at the school, DeFazio has guided the Bulldogs to a New York City Championship in both football and baseball.
A two-sport athlete and a seven-year letterman in both football and baseball at Columbia, DeFazio earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in 2006. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from Columbia in 2009. DeFazio also earned a Master's degree in English Language Education from the RELAY Graduate School of Education in 2013.
DeFazio, who served as Master of Ceremonies for Columbia's 2019 football banquet, is a native of Morristown, N.J. and a Delbarton School graduate. His younger brother Patrick is a 2010 graduate of Columbia College as well.
Fite joins the Columbia Football program after working the past year as a Recruiting Intern and Graphic Designer for the Wake Forest University Football program. In his role with the Demon Deacons, Fite coordinated and developed graphics for recruiting and social media, scouted high school prospects, organized the program's recruit board, conducted prospect tours, assisted in organizing Wake Forest's summer football camps and researched team, player and conference data for social media.
Before his stint at Wake Forest, Fite served as the Linebacker Coaching Intern and Graphic Designer with the Cumberland University football program in Lebanon, Tenn.
The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native spent six years working with the football program at his alma mater Middle Tennessee State University, starting as a video assistant before moving into roles with recruiting and defensive analyst. Fite served as a student video assistant for five years, assembling team and position group film sessions as well as operating DVSport film storage software and preparing video equipment for road trips. He added the role of recruiting intern for almost two years while in Murfreesboro, scouting high school and junior college prospects, assisted with prospect campus tours and coordinated and executed recruiting events.
A 2016 graduate of Middle Tennessee, Fite earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Leisure, Sport, and Tourism. He earned a Master of Science in Leisure and Sport Management from Middle Tennessee in 2018.
