Winter 2020 Academic All-Ivy League Selections Announced

Columbia's Winter Academic All-Ivy League honorees are Maria Chart, Sienna Durr, Albert Gwo, Nian-Guo Liu, Daniel Igbokwe, Sidarth Kumbla, Jack Pihlkar, Ester Schreiber, Katie Wasserman, and Helen Wojdylo.

PRINCETON, N.J.—Ten Columbia University student-athletes were named to the 2020 Winter Academic All-Ivy League Team, league officials announced on Thursday afternoon.

Earning Winter Academic All-Ivy League honors for Columbia were Maria Chart (Women's Fencing), Sienna Durr (Women's Basketball), Albert Gwo (Men's Swimming & Diving), Nian-Guo Liu (Men's Swimming & Diving), Daniel Igbokwe (Men's Indoor Track & Field), Sidarth Kumbla (Men's Fencing), Jack Pihlkar (Men's Indoor Track & Field), Ester Schreiber (Women's Fencing), Katie Wasserman (Women's Indoor Track & Field), and Helen Wojdylo (Women's Swimming & Diving). Two of the student-athletes earned the honor for the second time in their careers including Igbokwe and Kumbla.

Three Columbia teams—men's indoor track & field, women's fencing, men's swimming & diving—had two honorees apiece, while four teams had one selection apiece.

To be eligible for the Academic All-Ivy League squad, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key reserve on his or her team. The conference announces 10 Academic All-Ivy League selections (five men and five women) for each school after each of its three athletic seasons: fall, winter, and spring.

Following is a breakdown of each Columbia Winter Academic All-Ivy League selections:

First Team All-Ivy League selection in saber … Finishes second individually in saber with a 14-4 overall record at Ivy League Round Robins … Placed 17^th at NCAA Northeast Regional … Went 39-14 in dual matches … Owns a 77-46 career record in dual matches and 18-7 Ivy League record in three seasons … Played a key role in the Columbia Women winning three straight Ivy League team championships … Went 22-25 as a sophomore and 23-7 record as a first-year … Two-time British Champion and finished 15^th at the 2017 European Championships.

Second Team All-Ivy League selection … Averaged 12.8 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game … Registered six double-figure scoring games and three double-doubles … Scored a career-high 31 points at Buffalo… Two-time All-Ivy League honoree … In two-year career, has averaged 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 51 games and 51 starts … Last year as a first-year, earned the 2018-19 All-MET Women's NCAA Division I Rookie of the Year awards, Ivy League Rookie of the Year award and was a Second Team All-Ivy League selection … Named Columbia's Female Rookie of the Year at the 2019 Varsity C Celebration … Earned USBWA National Freshman of the Week honors on Jan. 8, 2019 … Ivy League Player of the Week honoree on Dec. 3, 2018 … Six-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree in 2018-19 … Set Columbia's freshman record for scoring with 392 points in 2018-19.

First Team All-Ivy League honoree in foil … Qualified for NCAA Championships in foil … Finished second individually with a 14-4 overall record at Ivy League Round Robins … Went 37-14 in dual matches … Owns a 163-38 career record in dual matches and 35-7 record in Ivy League Round Robin bouts … Played a key role in the Columbia Women winning three straight Ivy League team championships … Second Team All-Ivy League selection as a sophomore … Went 42-14 during the regular season as a junior …. Attends Barnard College … Two-time Swedish National Champion and seven-time Swedish Junior Champion.

Qualified for NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the One Mile … Ran the 16^th-best one mile time in the nation … Finished third in the One Mile at Indoor Ivy League Heps (4:49.17) … Five-time All-Ivy League honoree in both cross country and track and field, including two First Team selections … Helped guide Columbia to three straight Ivy League Heps cross country titles … Two-time USTFCCCA All-Northeast Region performer … Won 2019 Ivy League Indoor Heps title in the One Mile.

Finished in the top-6 of all three of her individual events at Ivy League Championships … Ivy League runner-up in the 100-breaststroke … Bronze Medalist in the 200 IM at Ivys … Second Team All-Ivy League and ECAC champion in the 100 breaststroke … Olympic Trials qualifier … Two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American honorable mention selection … Two-time All-Ivy League honoree … 2019 Ivy League champion in the 100 breast.
