CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.—Three Columbia women's golfers—first-year Annie Sun, sophomore Marlene Tartaro, and sophomore Jennifer Wang—earned Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team honors.
A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics as the minimum cumulative grade point average is a 3.50.
Sun concluded her first year at Columbia with an 80.40 stroke average (80.40 strokes in 10 rounds). Her top performance was a 31st place finish after shooting a 74-75-149 at the Dartmouth Invitational (Sept. 14-15) in her first collegiate competition. A Beijing, China native, Sun is enrolled at Columbia College.
Tartaro earns WGCA All-American Scholar honors for the second consecutive year. She registered an 83.70 stroke average (837 strokes in 10 rounds) in 2019-20 and shot a season-low round of 78 at the FAU Winter Warm-Up. Over her two-year career at Columbia, Tartaro has averaged an 82.18 in 22 rounds with a low round score of 75. A Warren, N.J. native, Tartaro majors in Biological Sciences.
Wang also earns WGCA All-American Scholar honors for the second straight year. As a sophomore in 2019-20, she finished third on the squad in stroke average with a 75.10 (751 strokes in 10 rounds) and ranked second in top-25 finishes (2). She was also named to the 2020 Spring Academic All-Ivy League Team and registered two 14th place finishes on the year including the FAU Winter Warm-Up and Dartmouth Invitational. Her season-low round was a 71 shot during the second round of the Yale Intercollegiate (Oct. 5). As a first-year in 2018-19, Wang earned First Team All-Ivy League honors after placing second at the 2019 Ivy League Championship. She became just the third player in school history to earn First Team All-Ivy League honors and became the second first-year player in school history to earn the honor after posting a 76.35 stroke average (1,298 strokes in 17 rounds), which ranked second on the squad.
Columbia's 2019-20 season was cut short due to health concerns caused by COVID-19 (Coronavirus outbreak).
