Explosive Second Half Leads Lions Past Green

Kendall McBribe records her first collegiate goal in Columbia's 3-2 victory over Dartmouth.

HANOVER, N.H. -- Behind a three-goal performance, the Columbia women's soccer team (8-5-1, 2-3-0) defeated the Dartmouth Big Green (5-6-1,1-4-0), 3-2 in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Sophomore Kendall McBride recorded her first collegiate goal while teammates Nata Ramierz and Ally Clark added to their lengthy lists of tallies this season.

On the year, eight different Lions have contributed to the team's goal scoring.

"Today's game was a great team effort and response on the road against a tough Dartmouth team. We showed a ton of character responding from being down one goal. We kept grinding and worked out way back," said head coach Tracey Bartholomew. "t was so good to finally score from our opportunities.  In particular, Kendall McBride had a great game, coming off the bench and helping us get the first goal back and assisting on another goal."

Dartmouth opened scoring just four minutes into the contest off the boot of freshman forward Hannah Curtin. The competitors battled back and forth for the next 39 minutes before McBride countered with a strike of her own, sending the Ivy League rivals to halftime tied at 1-1.
Building off the first half's momentum, Clark picked up the scraps of a Columbia corner, decisively launching the ball past Dartmouth's keeper. The Lions would not trail for the remainder of the contest as Ramirez netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season just three minutes later.

Not to go down without a fight, the Big Green's Allie Winstanley charged through Columbia's defense to move the score to 3-2 with 21 minutes left to play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Nurkin made five saves in the final 20 minutes to hold the score steady through the end of regulation. On the day, Nurkin recorded seven essential stops.

"Paige came up big time denying shots," noted Bartholomew. "She made many great saves to get us to the end of the game and walking off winning."

Columbia will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 30, for a 3:00 P.M. tilt against Yale.
