NEW YORK -- The Columbia women's swim and dive team fell to Yale, 106-194, in New Haven, CT. Divers
Macy Pine and
Alice Diakova headlined the event with top place finishes in the three and one meter events, respectively, while
Aziza Ganihanova shone between the lane lines.
Pine put up a 285.60 total, just three points ahead of teammate
Briget Rosendahl, to claim the three meter. For the second time in three meets, Diakova captured the one meter, doing so with a 291.60 total. Yale's Genevieve Thibodeau took second (269.48) while Rosendahl earned third (266.70).
"It was great to see how we stack up against some of the best divers in the league," reflected head diving coach
Scott Donie." "This is one of the most talented teams I have had the privilege to coach. Just an extraordinary group."
Ganihanova continued to prove herself in collegiate competition, touching the wall first in both the 1,000 free (10:05.65) and 200 back (2:00.86), at least three seconds ahead of the next closest finisher. Additionally, the rookie swam away with second in the 200 IM (2:06.28).
Junior
Olivia Jubin made an impact on the distance events, earning second in the 500 free just a fraction of a second behind Ivy League finalist Ashley Loomis (4:58.42) and third in the 1,000 free (10:08.64). Jubin concluded competition as a member of Columbia's top 200 free relay squad.
Senior captain
Mary Pruden contributed a pair of third place finishes in the 100 back ( 200 back (2:04.99). Sophomore
Allegra Walker took third in the 100 breast (1:04.13) as well as the 200 breast (2:20.25) after swimming the second leg of Columbia's 200 medley relay with the "A" team.
Columbia will compete in the ECAC Winter Swimming & Diving Championships Dec. 1-4 before returning to dual-meet action in the new year.
