Columbia Treks to UMBC for Midweek Matchup

The Lions and Retrievers will meet for just the second time Wednesday night.
OPENING TIP-OFF
• The Lions fell to Lafayette Monday, 73-50, after a big first half run by the Leopards. Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa and Josh Odunowo each had 11 points to lead Columbia in the contest.
• Columbia is playing its second of three games this week and will host Maine on Saturday to close out the busy swing.
NEWS/NOTES
UMBC'S STATUS
The Retrievers have won two-straight after knocking off American and Pittsburgh last week. UMBC is tops in the NCAA in free throw percentage, converting on 85.4 percent of its tries. Kenodre Kennedy is the Retrievers' top scorer, checking in at 15.3 points per game on 58.3 percent shooting from the floor.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Wednesday will mark just the second meeting between the schools with UMBC winning the previous matchup, 66-52, on Nov. 22, 2008 in Levien Gym.
COLUMBIA VS. THE AMERICA EAST
The Lions are 20-23 against teams currently in the America East Conference. Columbia's most common foe is Stony Brook, who it has faced 20 times. The Lions have already topped Binghamton and have Maine and UAlbany on the schedule in December. In 2019-20, Columbia went 1-2 against the America East with its win over Binghamton and losses to the Great Danes and Black Bears.
PAT ATTACK
Junior Patrick Harding has been a force on the glass over the past four games, averaging 9.3 rebounds during that span, pulling down double-figure boards twice. For the season, he is fifth in the Ivy League, posting 6.4 boards per contest. At Bryant in 2019-20, Harding set the program's Division I record for rebounds in a season and ranked second in the nation in rebounds per 40 minutes (18.5).
