
Pair Of Lightweight Rowers Aim To Qualify For Tokyo

Columbia Lightweight Rowing alumnus Jakub Buczek '15CC and Alexandros Zisimidis each will look to qualify for the Olympics at the Final Qualification Regatta.
LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND — A pair of Columbia Lightweight Rowers will take one final swing at qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics as alumnus Jakub Buczek '15CC and Alexandros Zisimidis each head to the 2021 Final Olympic Qualification Regatta set to be held from May 15-17.

2021 Final Olympic Qualification Regatta – Follow
The races are set to get going in Lucerne, Switzerland on Saturday, May 15 with the first race leaving the block at approximately 4 a.m. EST (10 a.m. CET). Buczek's first race is scheduled to go at 5:17 a.m. EST (11:17 a.m. CET), while Zisimidis is slated to get going at 6 a.m. EST (12 p.m. CET).
Zisimidis, who hails from Cyprus, will compete in the Men's Single Sculls, and he will be one of 23 rowers across four starting heats who will be looking to punch their ticket to Tokyo. For Zisimidis, this is his second crack at qualifying, as he took place in the 2021 World Rowing European Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta held from April 5-7 in Varese, Italy.
As for Buczek, he calls Canada home and will be a apart of the Canadian Men's Four and will be sitting at the bow when his crew race in the second of three heats. Buczek's crew is one of 13 crews that are spread among the three heats and a top three finish will allow Buczek's crew to avoid the repechage rounds.
