BOSTON — Columbia Heavyweight Rowing alumni
John Tanguay '20CC will get his chance to punch his ticket and represent the United States at the 2020 Paralympic Tokyo Games when he attends the USRowing Olympic Selection Camp, which is scheduled to run from June 1-18.
Â
Tanguay, who was born with "Clubfoot", earned his way onto the water with Columbia taking the 1V during his sophomore year before moving to the 2V for his junior season on Morningside.Â
Â
The selection camp will be competitive and Tanguay is one of seven rowers, three men and four women, who will try and earn a spot in the PR3 Mixed Four with Coxswain boat that will race in Tokyo for the United States. The boat will be made up of half men and half women so in order for Tanguay to earn a spot he will have to outperform one of the two other men rowers at the camp.
Â
USRowing has announced that they are planning on making the final selection known on June 18. The 2020 Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place Aug. 24-Sept. 5 in Tokyo, Japan.
