Honor marks the third straight season that senior Mike Roussos has been named a preseason All-American by Stats Perform.
NEW YORK— Columbia senior wide receiver Mike Roussos was named to the Stats Perform preseason Third Team All-America team as a punt returner, the media organization announced on Monday.
Roussos was one only three Ivy League football players named to the preseason All-America team by StatsPerform. It is the third straight season that Roussos has been named a preseason All-American by Stats Perform.
As a sophomore in 2019, Roussos ranked among national FCS leaders in punt return touchdowns (No. 2), punt return average (No. 3), combined return yardage (No. 4), and all-purpose yards per game (No. 18). A First Team All-Ivy League selection for the second straight season, Roussos led the conference in four statistical categories including kickoff return average (23.8), punt return average (17.3), punt return touchdowns (1), and combined kick return yardage (907), and ranked No. 3 in all-purpose yardage per game (130.8). Roussos also set or tied Columbia school records for most combined return yards in a season (907), most career 50-yard returns (6), and most career return touchdowns (3) during the 2019 season.
In addition, Roussos led the Lions with six touchdowns (team-high four rushing TDs), 1,308 all-purpose yards (665 on kickoff returns, 242 punt return, 395 receiving and six rushing), ranked second on the squad in both receptions (35) and receiving yards (395) and totaled six games of 100 or more all-purpose yards. Over his two-year, 18-game career (2018-19), the New Port Richey, Fla. native has accumulated 1,741 all-purpose yards (96.7 per game), scored eight touchdowns, caught 38 passes for 407 yards, and accumulated 868 kickoff return (24.1 average) and 460 punt return (17.7 average) yards. He is enrolled in the Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science and majors in Mechanical Engineering.
In 2021, Roussos is attempting to become just the fourth player in school history to earn three First Team All-Ivy League honors: quarterback Archie Roberts (1962-64), linebacker Rory Wilfork (1994-96), and offensive lineman Jeff Adams (2009-11).
Columbia's 2020 season was canceled by the Ivy League due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
