Lions move in, then complete physical exams, receive gear and equipment, and take headshots; practice begins on Saturday.
NEW YORK—Columbia Football opened its 2021 preseason training camp with Move-In Day on Thursday and Administrative Day on Friday. The Lions begin practice tomorrow on Saturday, August 20 from 2:40 p.m.-5:10 p.m. at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium. A complete preseason training camp schedule is available at this link. Practices are closed to the general public until further notice.
On Thursday afternoon, Columbia football players reported for camp and moved into dormitories on Columbia's Morningside Heights campus. Following dinner, the Lions met at Havemeyer Hall Room 309 for presentations from select Columbia staff on sports medicine, compliance, Success Through Well-Being services, and athletics communications.
Administrative Day began early Friday morning as the Lions reported to the Baker Athletics Complex. Each player went through a series of stations at Campbell Sports Center and Chrystie Field House. Each Lion underwent a thorough physical exam conducted by Columbia's athletic training and UMC sports medicine staff, was measured for heights and weights and took a headshot for the team's website, game program, and social media accounts. On the equipment front, Columbia student-athletes were fitted for helmets by Nike and Columbia representatives and the players also received their Nike practice gear. After lunch at Milstein Pavilion, the Lions split up into position groups for afternoon meetings.
