Mason rounds out Katie DeSandis' staff after playing professionally overseas.
NEW YORK — Remy Mason will join the Columbia field hockey coaching staff as an assistant, head coach Katie DeSandis announced today. This marks Mason's first coaching position at the collegiate level after a professional playing career overseas.
"Remy is the perfect addition to round out our staff and add to our Columbia field hockey family," DeSandis stated. "His unique experiences, perspective, passion for life and hockey knowledge will be instrumental in helping grow and develop our young women in this program. Remy's ability to know himself, know his purpose and passionately pursue what matters most on a daily basis is an invaluable trait he will both be able to share with our team. I am looking forward to having Remy integrated into our way of doing things here at CUFH and know his insights will push us to new heights."
Throughout high school, Mason trained and competed with the USMNT developmental program, East Coach High Performance (ECHP). He eventually went on to play professionally for HCAS in the Netherlands and was named captain of the men's U21 squad in 2016 where he practiced with the top men's team. Additionally, Mason helped coach the women's U16 squad.
Mason returned to the United States in 2017 and enrolled at George Washington University. While there, he began playing with the DC Dragons, a club team based out of College Park, Maryland, and built coaching experience by working with a number of club teams, high schools and college summer camps over the next several years.
In 2021, Mason earned his bachelor's degree in real estate finance with a minor in economics and development at GW's School of Business.
"Having worked with Katie and CUFH camps over the last four years, I know few can match the passion and energy the program hosts," Mason said. "I'm honored to have been chosen as a new assistant coach. Through this incredible opportunity, I hope to learn from the best and elevate those around me."
