NEW YORK — The sixth-ranked Columbia men's squash team (5-1) will compete for the first time in exactly one month on Tuesday, as the team heads up I-95 to take on No. 21 Bates College (2-6). The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.

THE LATEST
Columbia returns to match play after a month away for finals and the holidays. In the team's last outing, the Lions swept No. 16 Williams College, 9-0, back on Dec. 11 in Massachusetts. Columbia had to battle hard through some close matches to walk out on top. Three of the nine scoring matches went to five games and Columbia won just one of the nine matches in three.
The victory was a good bounce back from the team's Ivy League opening, 5-4, defeat to Cornell the week prior. The Lions went down 4-2 and tried to claw their way back in it, but Cornell got the clincher it needed from the top court to put away the match. James Wyatt (2), Adam Goad (5), Rutvik Rau (6) and Justin Ghaeli (8) earned Columbia's four points.
STICKING AT SIX
Columbia has been ranked No. 6 in the CSA Team National Rankings all season. The team's five wins to this point have come against teams ranked inside the top 20 at the time of the match.
ABOUT BATES COLLEGE
Columbia and Bates will meet for the first time since the fall semester of 2011, when the Lions defeated Bates, 7-2, at home. Columbia's men's squash program was just in its second year of existence the last time the two teams met.
Bates enters this year's matchup with a record of 2-6. The Bobcats came away with a 7-2 victory No. 24 Middlebury on Sunday, bouncing back from a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Williams the day prior. Tuesday will be the team's first home contest since Dec. 4, when the Bobcats were soundly defeated by No. 4 Trinity, 9-0.
