NEW YORK — The No. 6 Columbia women's squash team (3-1) makes its 2022 calendar debut on Tuesday, as the team heads north to Lewiston, Maine for a date with No. 16 Bates College (2-6). The match gets underway at 10 a.m. ET.

THE LATEST
Columbia last competed back on December 11 and defeated No. 13 Williams College on the road, 6-3. The Lions earned points from the top five courts, including Sarah Cao's first victory playing at the No. 1 position. Erica McGillicuddy, Ellie McVeigh, Renee Chan and Elizabeth Lentz all took care of their opponents without too much trouble. The Lions also earned a default point at No. 9 to get to the final tally.
The win over Williams extended Columbia's winning streak to three matches, which includes a pair of hard-fought, 5-4, victories over top-10 Drexel and Cornell. Prior to the 6-3 result against Williams, the Lions had every match of the season decided by a 5-4 score line.
Columbia was supposed to have opened the New Year last Friday but mutually agreed to have its match against Stanford canceled due to concerns over the rising number of COVID-19 cases being reported throughout the country. The team's scheduled tournament at Princeton this past weekend was also canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
STILL UNBEATEN
Sisters Farida and Habiba Mohamed are the two Lions with unbeaten 3-0 records heading into Tuesday's matchup. The duo last competed on Dec. 5 against Cornell and was not in the lineup for the following match at Williams.
ABOUT BATES COLLEGE
Columbia and Bates will meet for the fourth time in series history on Tuesday. Bates holds a 2-1 edge but it was Columbia that came away victorious the last time the two sides met in 2014 by a final of 7-2. That matchup came in the Kurtz Cup at the CSA Team Nationals, advancing Columbia to the finals against George Washington. Bates won the first two meetings between the two programs, both of which came in 2011.
Bates enters this year's matchup with a record of 2-6 and have fallen in its first two matchup of 2022 against No. 13 Williams, 7-2, and No. 14 Middlebury, 6-3. Tuesday will be the team's first home contest since Dec. 4, when the Bobcats were soundly defeated by No. 2 Trinity, 9-0.
