NEW YORK — The No. 6 Columbia men's squash team was dealt a home loss by No. 4 Trinity, 8-1, Saturday afternoon at the SL Green StreetSquash Center.
Sophomore
Harold Castiaux picked up Columbia's (6-2) only point of the match, coming back from 2-1 down to defeat Marawan ElBorolossy in five games, 11-8, 5-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6. Castiaux improved his dual record to 4-2 on the season.
Castiaux's win pulled the team score to 2-1 after Trinity (6-0) earned wins at No. 7 and No. 1 to score the first two points of the match.
Velavan Senthilkumar played in the top match for the Lions and split his first two games with Miko Aijanen, but suffered 11-9 and 11-7 defeats in games three in four.
The big swing in the match came in the second round of duals.
James Wyatt led 2-1 at No. 3 and
Adam Goad led 2-1 at No. 5, but both were overcome in games four and five by their Trinity counterparts. Goad's fifth was all tied 10-10 before Ahmed Ismali scored the last two points to win the dual and clinch Trinity's fifth point of the match.
The Lions continued to battle through the final round of matches but were unable to come away with any wins.
Rutvik Rau dropped his first two games against Will Curtis but made a valiant comeback to win games three and four to force a fifth. Curtis escaped with the victory, 11-9.
Columbia will hope to bounce back on Sunday when it hosts No. 5 Yale (5-0). The match begins at 12 p.m. ET.
