STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —
Kali Hatcher's first-place mark in the triple jump set the tone for Columbia Track & Field at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic held at the Ocean Breeze Sports Complex on Friday night, where along with Hatcher, nine Lions finished inside the top-five in a solid day of competition.
Â
Hatcher leaped 40-01.50/12.23m to collect Columbia's lone first-place mark of the day. While in the women's 200-meter dash
Elena Wilson clocked 22.33 and
Delaney Sanacore clocked a time of 2:15.40 in the 800-meter dash, while in the men's shot put
Patrick Passalacqua recorded a second-place mark of 50-05.25/15.37m for the next two top finishes for Columbia on the day.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN): Hatcher launched 12.23m in her final attempt, putting a bow on her win, while
Tiffany Bautista joined her inside the top-three, jumping 38-03.25/11.66m to finish third in the triple jump in what was Columbia's best overall event. Bautista also recorded a fourth-place mark of 18-02.50/5.55m in the long jump, and in the shot put
McKinlee Morris tossed a mark of 43-10.75/13.38m to finish second, giving Columbia four top-five finishes in the field.
Â
Wilson and Sanacore both clocked personal best times with Wilson clocking in at 25.33 in the 200m and Sanacore crossing the line at 2:15.40 in the 800m. Both finishes were good enough for second-place, giving Columbia two top-two finishes on the track. Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN): Passalacqua's toss of 15.37m locked up second place in the shot put, giving the Lions their best finish in the field. But overall, it was a strong showing in the shot put, with
Yoosang Kim joining Passalacqua inside the top-five with personal best mark of 47-09.25/14.56m to finish fourth.
Â
On the track,
Chris Balthazar ran a pair of 60-meter dashes in a personal best time of 6.92. He first used the 6.92 time to qualify for the finals, and he would clock an identical time in the finals to finish third overall in the 60m to give Columbia's men its best finish in the track events.
