NEW YORK – The Ivy League held a virtual Women's Basketball Media Day on Tuesday. Representatives from all eight member institutions participated, including Columbia head coach Megan Griffith, senior Kaitlyn Davis and junior Abbey Hsu.
Columbia's full press conference can be accessed here.
"We're excited … We got a jumpstart to our season with the foreign tour this year," said Coach Griffith in her opening remarks. "It was an amazing experience with our players, our staff and all of the people that work so hard to get the program to this point, including our alumni family that has done so much to support us. That was honestly one of the best parts about this year so far, was being able to start in August with this group, get everybody back together and just get to enjoy something like that together. We're just excited to get back after it."
Griffith coached the Lions to an unprecedented 2021-22 campaign which saw the team go 25-7 overall with a 12-2 Ivy League mark. Columbia shattered the program's previous records for overall and Ivy wins, advancing to the Ivy League Championship Game for the first time and later winning three games in the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) to advance to the National Quarterfinals.
Leading the Lions through their historic season were Davis and Hsu, both of whom were named to the All-Ivy League and All-Met Basketball Teams.
"it all goes back to being a team player and being there for my teammates," said Davis, who averaged 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game last season. "I think it all goes back to how each of us lifts each other up throughout the season and I just think that's going to be a really important part of this season."
Columbia's 2022-23 season begins November 7 at Memphis. The Lions welcome fans back to Levien Gymnasium the following Sunday, November 13, to host Vanderbilt.

"I just want to build off of last year and perfect the little things that I was working on," said Hsu when asked about following up on her record sophomore campaign, in which she broke the Ivy League's single-season and Columbia career 3-point records in the same year. "I want to become more of a two-way player and that's something me and Coach have been working on, and I'm excited to show what we've been working on all summer this [upcoming] year."More from today's @IvyLeague Women's Basketball Media Day with Kaitlyn Davis & Abbey Hsu. #RoarLionRoar // #EDGE
