NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Columbia volleyball (4-15, 1-9) faced off against the top seed in the Ivy League, playing Yale (18-1, 10-0) on Saturday night. The Bulldogs took the match 3-0.
Saj McBurrows led the offensive attack with seven kills. The senior outside hitter turned in another efficient night, hitting .467.
The Bulldogs generated a comfortable 11-3 lead in the first set. The Yale advantage grew to 15 later in the set and it would stay at that margin for the remainder of the set. Yale won 25-10.
Columbia made it interesting in the second set, going on a 6-0 run after trailing 13-10.
Pierce Woodall had a service ace and McBurrows had two kills during the span. The Bulldogs eventually retook the lead, growing the margin to as much as five. Yale took the set 25-20.
Columbia was staring down a six-point margin before scoring four unanswered points.
Ruby van der Heide recorded an ace and it was McBurrows again, getting the kill for the Lions. Leading 16-13, Yale created more breathing room with four straight points. The Bulldogs went on to win the set 25-18.
Up next, the Lions head to Harvard on Friday, November 4 for a meeting with the Crimson at 7:00 p.m.
