The Lions welcome the Black Knights to Uris Pool for a 3 p.m. start
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's swimming and diving program will begin the 2022-23 campaign this weekend in Uris Pool to face Army Friday, November 4, at 3 p.m. ET. The following day, the Lions will head to Philadelphia to take on Penn to wrap up their opening weekend.
The Lions return a solid core from last season's squad that collected five medals at the Ivy League Championship. Sophomore Demirkan Demir shattered school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke in his rookie on his way to winning the 100 and taking silver at the conference championships. Hayden Liu, Thomas Shepanzyk and Kyle Won are also back from bronze-winning relay squads from Ivies.
Columbia also welcomes back arguably the greatest Ivy League diver of all time, senior Jonathan Suckow. The native of Switzerland is coming off a pair of All-America finishes in the one and three-meter dives and has swept each event at all three Ivy League Championships he has competed in (2018, 2019, 2022).
SCOUTING ARMY
The Black Knights already have three competitions under their belts and sit at 4-0 in the early stages of the dual meet season. Army has earned wins over South Carolina, UNCW, Seton Hall and Boston College before Friday's matchup with the Lions.
Last season, the Black Knights snapped a three-meet losing streak to the Lions after picking up a 174-126 win in West Point. Suckow set a pair of pool records in the competition.
