Columbia Finishes Fourth in the Ivy League

Lions conclude sixth-consecutive winning campaign

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Columbia women's soccer season came to an end on Saturday against Harvard, falling to the Crimson by a score of 5-0 at Jordan Field.

Despite the result of the season's final match, the Lions ended the year with a record of 7-5-3, 3-3-1 Ivy League, marking their sixth-consecutive winning campaign. Columbia also posted an Ivy League record of .500 or better for the sixth time in the last seven years.

Leading the way offensively for the Lions in 2022 was junior Shira Cohen, who matched her career-high from 2019 with four goals. She and Ania Prussak tied for the team lead with 10 points. Prussak and first-year Maia Tabion netted three goals apiece, while sophomore Sophia Cavaliere and Prussak had four assists to tie for the team lead.

"I'm proud of this team and I'm proud of the effort we gave all season and through this game today," said head coach Tracey Bartholomew, who completed her ninth season leading the Lions. "Even though this isn't the way we wanted to end our season, everyone on the bench was still cheering the players on until the end. We knew this was going to be a difficult game and Harvard was just on today. It was their Senior Night and they were playing with passion out there. They are going to get a good seed in the NCAA Tournament and show the rest of the country how tough this league can be."

Columbia fell behind in the eighth minute and was never able to rally. Harvard (11-1-3, 5-0-2 Ivy), a team destined for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, doubled its advantage in the 28th minute, led 2-0 at halftime and put the game out of reach with three second-half tallies. The Crimson fired 22 shots, 15 of which were on goal. Paige Nurkin and Liz Matei each played one half between the posts and each came away with five saves.
