The linebacker posted a game-high 13 tackles in the Lions’ win at Harvard
PRINCETON, N.J. — Senior Scott Valentas was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Columbia football team earn its first victory at Harvard since 1995. He joins teammate Bryson Canty as the second Lion to earn a weekly conference award this season.
Valentas did a little bit of everything, posting a game-high 13 tackles (1.5 TFL) to go with an interception, blocked field goal and recovered another blocked kick. Saturday marked the fourth consecutive game he has posted double-figure tackles. His knock down of the field goal try in the fourth quarter was followed by a big return by Seth Parker to set up the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter. From there, he and the defense kept the Crimson off the board in their final two drives to seal the victory.
This is the first time the Wichita, Kansas, product has earned a weekly honor since being selected Ivy League Rookie of the Week twice in 2019.
Columbia plays its final road contest of the season this Saturday, November 12, at Brown. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
Tickets for the Lions' final home game against Cornell (Saturday, November 19 – 1 p.m.) are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting www.gocolumbialions.com/tickets or calling 888-LIONS-11.
