PRINCETON, N.J. — Two days after scorching the nets with nine treys and scoring a career-high 34 points, Columbia's
Abbey Hsu has been named Ivy League women's basketball Player of the Week. The league office announced its weekly honors Monday afternoon.
Hsu put on a show in a battle between two teams looking to build their resumes for March. The junior from Parkland, Florida scored 17 first-quarter points against Massachusetts by going 5-for-5 from deep. She made it six consecutive threes early in the second quarter before ending the day 9-of-11 from the outside to lead Columbia to a comfortable, 83-74, victory over the Minutewomen. The Lions led by as many as 17.
Hsu's nine triples set a new Columbia record for a single game and made her just the fourth player in Ivy League history to hit as many. She also became just the third player in the NCAA this season to hit nine threes and owns the best 3-point percentage out of the bunch. In fact, Hsu owns two of the NCAA's top-five 3-point-percentage games of the year.
Combined with her performance in Wednesday's victory at Stony Brook, Hsu averaged 23.5 points on 51.6-percent shooting (16-31), including 55.6-percent (10-18) from beyond the arc. She also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
This marks the second straight week and the fifth time in her career that Hsu has been selected with the Ivy honor. She enters this week ranking No. 1 in the NCAA in 3-pointers made (39), No. 4 in 3-point makes per game (3.55), No. 30 in 3-point percentage (.481) and No. 12 in total points (201). She leads the Ivy League in all of those categories, as well as points per game (18.3) and total field goals (70).
Additionally, senior
Kaitlyn Davis was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll. Davis put up 19 points (8-15 FG) in the win over Stony Brook and followed with 15 (7-9 FG) against UMass. The Greenwich Academy product also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals.
Columbia (9-2) will play an interborough matchup against LIU (2-8) on Tuesday. Tip-off from the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn is set for 7 p.m. ET.
