Lions to Host Four Matches This Week

Lions to host four women’s tennis matches in six days: doubleheader vs. St. John’s (Noon) and NJIT (4 p.m.) on Wednesday, Iowa State on Friday (1 p.m.), and Washington State on Sunday (11 a.m.).
HARRISON, N.Y.—The Columbia women's tennis team gets back to action when it hosts four matches in six days this week beginning with a doubleheader vs. St. John's (Noon) and NJIT (4 p.m.) on Wednesday at LifeTime Westchester. The Lions will also host Iowa State on Friday at 1 p.m. and Washington State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
There are several current COVID protocols at LifeTime Westchester. Spectators for the event are limited to those on a pass list. Upon entry, members and guests are required to show proof of full vaccination when checking into the facility (ages 12 and up). For youth ages 5-11, one dose is required. Masks are mandatory as per Columbia University policy. LifeTime Westchester is located at 1 Westchester Park Drive, West Harrison, N.Y. 10604.
Winners of four of its last five matches, Columbia (6-2) is coming off an ECAC Championship event in which it won two of three matches last weekend in Ithaca, N.Y. The Lions defeated Yale 4-2, lost to Princeton 4-0, then defeated Penn 5-2.
Leading the Lions in singles victories are Michelle Xu and Anna Zhang with nine wins apiece. Shivani Amineni, Akanksha Bhan, Julia Haynes, Jennifer Kerr, and Clarine Lerby each have eight singles wins. In doubles, Kerr and Amineni and Bhan and Zhang each have teamed for six wins apiece.
St. John's enters Wednesday's contest with a 5-2 record following back-to-back 4-0 wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner (4-0). NJIT is 4-2 overall with three straight wins over Fairleigh Dickinson (6-1), Georgetown (4-1), and Binghamton (7-0).
