Records Fall on Third Night of Ivies, Demir Claims Ivy Title

Demir and Kistorp record program records on third night of championships.

Princeton, NJ -- First-year Demirkan Demir and senior Jonas Kistorp set program records on the penultimate night of the 2022 Ivy League Men's Swim and Dive Championships. Demir broke the Lions' standing record during the preliminary heat of the 100 breast (52.37) before breaking his own fledgling record with an Ivy League winning time of 51.93 in the event finals. With the victory, the first-year became the first Lion of 2022, from either program, to claim an Ivy League title in the pool.

Kistorp took second in the 100 fly with a time of 45.88 after swimming a record-breaking race in the prelims, touching the wall in 45.76. Seung Joon Ahn and Hayden Liu followed in the event's B final, finishing in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Stanford Li started the third night strong, taking 10th in the 1,000 free by shaving 15 seconds from his preliminary time (9:18.38). In the following event, the 400 IM, Columbia's Joey Licht and David Wang went back to back in the B final. Licht took third in 3:51.74 while Wang finished in fourth (3:52.81).

Tristan Pragnell and Thomas Shepanzyk competed in the C final of the 200 free, earning second and fourth place finishes. Columbia resumed competition in the B final of the 100 back as a trio of Lions represented head coach Jim Bolster's squad. First-year Kyle Won led the pack, taking second (48.34), followed by Licht (third, 48.54) and Josh Cho (48.79).

Won, Demir, Kistorp, and Shepanzyk punctuated the evening with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay. The Lions team dropped four seconds from its preliminary time, finishing the event in 3:10.18.

Columbia continues to sit in fifth (598) with the final night of Ivies scheduled for tomorrow. Preliminaries begin at 11:00 A.M while finals are slated for 6:00 P.M..
