Lancaster, PA -- Following an impressive showing at the 2022 U.S. Archery Indoor Nationals, Columbia's
Sachiko Keane was named the 2022 Compound College Women's National Champion. Shot at various locations around the country, scores are first distributed at the
regional level before combining into a
national ranking. Led by head coach
Derek Davis, Columbia competed in the Pennsylvania Regional, collecting the top spot in three categories.
En route to reclaiming the Women's Compound Collegiate title, Keane took first in both compound collegiate and compound senior (1,159) competitions. Following the combination of total results, Keane ranked sixth, national, for all senior women. Also competing in compound events were teammates
Nina Duke and
Jessica Kim. The first-year took second (1,107) in both the junior compound and collegiate compound events while Kim claimed second (1,107) in the senior competition.
Team co-captain
Meghan Collins took first in the Women's Recurve Collegiate event, earning fifth at the national level (1,091), despite a five month hiatus from training.
Judith Gottlieb followed in second (1,067) in Pennsylvania in collegiate recurve, sitting in 11th nationally, while
Erin White narrowly earned third (1,066).
"Overall, I'm happy with the results and proud of the team," reflected Davis. "Mentally and emotionally there's a lot going on with the return from COVID-19 and the fear of where it might go next. So, to see them shake off the dust and jump right back in is special. We're looking forward to the outdoor half of our year now!"
Co-captain
Savannah Ward earned fourth and fifth place finishes at the regional level in the collegiate and senior recurve events, respectively.
Columbia kicks off its outdoor slate at the 2022 Puerto Rico Archery Cup in Bayamòn, PR from March 14-20.
