Sophomore continues impressive 2026 season
NEWBERRY, Fla. — Sophomore Alena Lipscomb earned fourth place in the Recurve U21 Women's Division to highlight the Columbia archery team's performance at the 2026 Easton Foundations Gator Cup. The event took place over the weekend at the Easton Newberry Archery Center.
Lipscomb totaled 608 points in her qualifying round to earn the No. 2 seed out of 41 archers. She earned a bye into the 1/16th Round, easily winning her opening match, 6-0, and advancing past the 1/8th round handily, 6-2.
Those results pitted Lipscomb against No. 10 seed Yuree Kim in the Quarterfinals. Lipscomb was impressive in the first end, 28-21, to take the opening two points. Kim won the second, 26-20, to even up the match, and it remained even, 3-3, after both archers scored 22 points in the third end. Lipscomb then won the fourth end, 27-26, to take a 5-3 lead, but Kim won the fifth, 27-25, sending the match to a single-arrow shoot-off at 5-5. Lipscomb won the shoot-off to advance to the Semifinals.
The top four seeds from the qualification round all made the Semifinals. Lipscomb went up against No. 3 seed Vinusha Sridhar, dropping the first end, 26-19, but playing to a draw in ends two and three, entering the fourth end trailing, 4-2. Sridhar won the fourth end, 24-22, to close out the match.
Lipscomb then battled No. 1 seed Hailey Franzone in the bronze-medal match after Franzone was upset by No. 4 seed Yeshaswini Tati. Franzone and Lipscomb traded the first four ends to head to the fifth level, 4-4. Franzone squeaked out the match by winning the fifth, 27-22.
Lipscomb's performance at the Gator Cup is the latest chapter in an impressive season. The sophomore from Thailand won gold at both the Easton Youth & Collegiate Trophy Tournament (Jan. 24) and CU Invitational (Feb. 21), took silver at USA Archery Indoor Nationals (Feb. 28 – Mar. 1) and won gold just a week ago at USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals (Apr. 11-12). Lipscomb was also named All-East Region, earning the highest combined score of the East Region's Women's Recurve honorees.
The Lions shoot at the Atlantic Cape Spring Open this coming Saturday, April 25. It will serve as their final tune-up ahead of USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals, which are scheduled for May 14-17, in East Lansing, Michigan.
