Lions fall to UNH on the Road

Columbia drops close contest in New Hampshire.

Durham, NH -- Despite scoring first, the Columbia women's lacrosse team (2-4) was unable to hold its edge, falling to the University of New Hampshire 15-12 in Durham. Senior Sydney Paoletti struck first (8:47) before the Wildcats produced three unanswered goals in under a minute.

Offensively, Columbia was led by first-year Dani Falcone. The rookie recorded a 3-3 game-tying strike in the first quarter while leading the Lions in total points with four goals and one assist. Additionally, Falcone caused a team-high two turnovers. Junior Kayla Nitahara was also able to find the back of the net four times, doing so off four attemps for a perfect 1.000 shot percentage.

First-year Kate Cunning scored twice while sophomore Lauren Yun dished out a pair of assists.

On the day, the Columbia out shot the Wildcats 31-29 while owning 20 draw controls to UNH's 12. Sophie Zachara led the contest with five draw controls. Between the pipes, senior co-captain Ryan Schlageter turned away a game-high five shots and scooped four ground balls. She was aided on defense by junior Adèle Swanson's pair of ground balls.

The Lions return home Tuesday for a 4:00 P.M. start against Iona.
