Class of 2021's 99 percent job placement rate ties school-record for best total.
NEW YORK—According to Columbia Athletics' Success Through Well-Being's Fall 2021 Employment Report, ninety-nine percent of Columbia University's 2021 student-athlete graduates reported securing post-graduate plans, the Athletic Department released on Tuesday. *This data does not include nine members of the Class of 2021.
Of Columbia's graduating student-athletes who reported post-graduate plans, 69 percent secured full-time employment, 24 percent are attending graduate school, and the remaining alumni are involved in various other opportunities (i.e., fellowship, internship, and gap years). These figures have been compiled six months after May 2021 commencement.
Of the 96 student-athletes who secured full-time employment, a variety of different industries are represented including finance, consulting, health care, research, tech, engineering, business, media, and the arts.
The Columbia Athletics Class of 2021 can be found at companies and organizations that include, but are not limited to, Morgan Stanley, Hospital for Special Surgery, Boston Consulting Group, ESPN, Fulbright, IBM, Google, Salesforce, Goldman Sachs, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
These numbers reflect Columbia Athletics' mission which is "to maximize the opportunities for our student-athletes to reach their highest levels of achievement—here at Columbia and for the rest of their lives." The Class of 2021 data is consistent with the success that student-athletes have achieved over the last 6 years: 2015 (99%), 2016 (98%), 2017 (98%), 2018 (99%), 2019 (98%), and 2020 (92%).
"It is great to see the post-graduation success of our student-athletes, who have worked incredibly hard not only in their academic and athletic pursuits, but also in preparation for their plans after departing Columbia. The resilience and dedication of our student-athletes in the Classes of 2021 and 2020, is particularly remarkable as they experienced many challenges due to COVID-19," Columbia University's Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education Peter Pilling said.
"Success Through Well-Being is committed to supporting student-athletes in their professional pursuits after their time at Columbia. Additionally, an immense amount of support is received from our campus partners at Columbia University Center for Career Education and Beyond Barnard, as well as countless alumni who dedicate their time in supporting our student-athletes in various capacities with the career development process."
The Columbia Success Through Well-Being Initiative works to support student-athletes holistically at Columbia and to prepare them for life after college. The Success Through Well-Being team assists student-athletes in the areas of academic support, sport performance, career development, sports nutrition, and leadership.
