Lions Fall to Harvard Despite Strong Senior Day Showing

Harvard pulls through a 6-6 tie at the half for the win.

NEW YORK -- Despite its strongest showing in Ivy play thus far, the Columbia lacrosse team (2-9) fell to visiting Harvard (5-6) 13-8 on Senior Day. The Lions battled back from a 5-2 deficit in the first quarter to level the playing field 6-6 at the half. The Crimson went on to outscore Columbia 8-2 in the second half for the win.

Following the contest, the Lions recognized their six graduating seniors: Rachel Graff, Kate Kelly, Payton Lill, Katie Lutz, Sydney Paoletti, and Ryan Schlageter. All four-year members of the team, the class of 2022 leaves a legacy of resilience and perseverance. Paoletti paced the seniors with one. goal and two assists for three points while Lill, Graff, and Lutz each recorded a goal.

On the day, Columbia's leading scorer, first-year Dani Falcone, found the back of the net twice. Classmates Kate Cunning and Noelle DeMarinis recorded one goal and one assist, respectively.

Schlageter earned the start in net, making seven saves in 48 minutes of play. Rookie Simone Koryszewski closed the game, turning away three shots.

Columbia edged Harvard in draw controls, securing 17 to the Crimson's nine. 

The Lions will play their last game at home on Wednesday, April 27 in a rescheduled showdown against Princeton.
