NEW YORK -- The No. 22 Columbia men's tennis team swept the doubles competition as the Lions defeated visiting Navy 6-1 in the final out of conference matchup of 2022. From the top spot,
Henry Ruger and
Theo Winegar conquered Sasha Panyan and Gavin Segraves, 6-2. Teammates
Roko Horvat and
Austen Huang solidified the doubles point with a 6-4 win from the third spot, defeating Jack Dabek and Jack McBride. Though unfinished,
Alex Kotzen and
Hugo Hashimoto held Jake Fishkin and Derrick Thompson to a 5-3 result.
Hashimoto collected the first singles win of the afternoon, defeating Segraves in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Huang further capitalized on the Lions' momentum with a straight set victory of his own over McBride (6-3, 6-0).
From the third spot, Ruger secured the match-clinching fourth point. Against Fishkin, he picked up a quick 6-1 victory in the first set before sealing match 6-4 in the second. Winegar further emphasized the Lions dominance by fighting past Dabek. Despite dropping the first set, 3-6, Winegar recovered to force a third set, winning in a 10-7 tiebreak set.

Alex Kotzen was victorious from Columbia's top spot, narrowly defeating Thompson 7-5, 6-4.
Columbia opens Ivy League play next Saturday as the Lions play host to the Harvard Crimson. The match, scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M., will be contested at Lifetime Westchester.
