Austen Huang recorded individual victories as #27 Columbia fell to #68 Cornell, 2-4, on the road.
Cornell opened the match, securing the doubles point. No. 24 Alafia Ayeni and Vlad Melnic defeated
Henry Ruger and
Theo Winegar, 6-3, while Evan Bynoe and Pietro Rimondini overcame Huang and
Hugo Hashimoto, 6-2.
Hashimoto went on to play from the top singles spot against #24 Ayeni. Despite Hashimoto's best efforts, Ayeni came away with the straight sets win (7-5, 7-5).
Playing up on the second court, Westphal defeted Malnic, 6-3, 6-2. Huang went on to collect the Lions' last point of the day in a straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, victory over Nathan Mao on the fourth court.
Columbia looks ahead to Monday, May 2, when the NCAA officially announces its team championship bracket. The 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship selections will be announced at 6 p.m. onÂ
NCAA.com.
The 2022 championship will be at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, from May 19 to May 28.Â
Individual selections will be made, offline, on Tuesday.
