Lions play five home games; host Yale Friday, Oct. 28 on ESPNU
NEW YORK — The Columbia University Athletics Department announced kickoff times for its 2022 football schedule on Monday. In conjunction with the Ivy League's linear ESPN television package, the Lions will now host Yale on Friday night, October 28, in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.
Earlier today, the Ivy League announced its six-game football package set to air on ESPN's linear networks this upcoming season. Aside from its Friday night game on ESPNU, four of Columbia's five home games are expected to appear on ESPN+. Columbia's complete regional television package and ESPN+ schedule will be announced at a later date.
The 2022 season will mark the eighth year for the Lions under head coach Al Bagnoli. Last season, Bagnoli coached the Lions to a 7-3 overall record and a winning 4-3 mark against Ivy League competition. The nation's second-winningest active head coach, and the winningest active head coach at the FCS level, the 2022 season will mark Bagnoli's 40th-career competition season as a head coach.
Columbia's 2022 season begins with two games on the road. After making the short trip up to Poughkeepsie to open the schedule at Marist (Sept. 17), Columbia will look to retain the Lou Little Cup on Sept. 24 when it visits Georgetown. The Lions took back the trophy last season with a, 35-24, victory at home.
Columbia will play at home four times in the month of October, beginning with its home and Ivy League opener against Princeton on Saturday, October 1. This will mark the first time the Lions have hosted an Ivy League team in their home opener since also doing so against the Tigers in 2018. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET. Columbia remains home the following week for a non-conference clash with Wagner (Oct. 8).
After a trip to Penn (Oct. 15), the Lions return home for back-to-back Ivy League weekends. Homecoming from Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium will take place Saturday, October 22, against Dartmouth. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. Six days later, the Lions will host Yale in their first nationally televised home game since 2018. Friday night's kickoff on ESPNU is set for 6:30 p.m.
Columbia travels to Harvard (Nov. 5) and Brown (Nov, 12) before returning to New York City for the season finale on Saturday, November 19, against Cornell. Kickoff for the annual Empire State Bowl will take place at 1 p.m. ET. The Lions will be looking to retain the trophy that they took back with a, 34-26, road victory in 2021.
Season tickets go on sale starting July 7. For more information, contact the ticket office at 888-LIONS-11 or lionstickets@columbia.edu.
