Scott Alwin resigns as head coach of heavyweight rowing
NEW YORK— Peter Pilling, the Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education at Columbia University, announced on Wednesday that Columbia heavyweight rowing head coach Scott Alwin has resigned from his position, and will not return to Columbia for the 2022-23 academic year.
"The entire Columbia Rowing community is grateful for the passion and dedication of Coach Alwin over the years. His contributions to Columbia Rowing have meant so much to so many," Pilling noted. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Alwin arrived at Columbia in 2007 to become the head coach of the lightweight program. From 2007 to 2013, he led the lightweights to many successful results, including reaching the Grand Final at Eastern Sprints in 2008, and a bronze medal at the IRA championships in 2013. In 2013, he was promoted to Director of Rowing and head coach of the heavyweight crew, which he led through this season.
A search for a heavyweight rowing head coach will commence immediately.
