The Lions put on the full pads for the first time during the 2022 fall camp.
NEW YORK — It began to sound a lot like football on Robert K. Kraft Field when, for the first time this season, Columbia football put on the full pads as the 2022 season shifts into its next gear after completing its first week of fall camp.
"We're on schedule and on plan," said Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Al Bagnoli. "We're in the dog days of camp, where it's hot and humid, but you just need to continue to make sure that you mentally prepare right and can fight through.
"That's what preseason is for, we are looking to get into football shape and get some answers. Getting a chance to put on the full pads allows us to get used to the equipment and the heat. We will start building a bit more as we get closer to the start of the season."
The sounds of pads popping could be heard across upper Manhattan on Friday, as Columbia gets ready for its season opener at Marist on Sept. 17. The Lions open home against Ivy League foe Princeton on Oct. 1.
Season and single-game tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting www.gocolumbialions.com/tickets or calling 888-LIONS-11.
