Track & Field Completes Exciting, Three-Event Weekend

The Lions sent student-athletes to the Gotham Cup on Friday before tri-meet on Saturday

NEW YORK — The Columbia indoor track and field team took part in the Gotham Cup on Friday, before competing in a tri-meet with Dartmouth and Yale on Saturday.

The Lions sent a group of student-athletes to compete in the Gotham Cup Friday, and they did not disappoint.

Michael Danzi was was the story of the meet for Columbia on the men's side, taking first in the 1000m run with a time of 2:23. Meanwhile, on the women's side, Victoria Patterson was the story, winning the 1-mile run with a time of 4:47.66. The Lions finished fourth, fifth, and ninth in the event.

Columbia also had a successful day in the Columbia-Yale-Dartmouth tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. Both the men and women for the Lions finished in second place, just behind Dartmouth in the standings. Many individuals had impressive performances, however, despite not coming out on top.

On the men's side, Chris Balthazar was the first to win an individual event, taking first in the 200m dash with a time of 22.018. Haydn Brotschi then won the 400m run with a time of 23.111. Nate Gramentine won the high jump with a jump of 2.04m. The Lions also won both the 4x400m relay and the 4x800m relay.

On the women's side, Rachel Marsh was the first to win an event, taking first in the 200m dash with a time of 25.724. Anna Jordahl-Henry won the high jump with a jump of 1.7m.

In addition to the indoor track & field events, the Lions also sent Elia Ton-That to compete in the USATF u20 Cross Country Championships. She placed 10th in the 6k race, clocking in at 21:04.

ON DECK: The Lions will be back at next weekend, hosting the Columbia Challenge at the Armory on Friday and Saturday. Events begin at 10 a.m.
