Abbey Hsu Tabbed Ivy League, MBWA Player of the Week

Junior guard wins wins third Ivy, second MBWA award of the season

NEW YORK and PRINCETON, N.J.— The player with the most threes per game in the nation has been named the Ivy League and Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Player of the Week. Columbia women's basketball's Abbey Hsu took home both honors this week. The Ivy League named its weekly award winners on Monday. The MBWA named theirs on Tuesday.

Hsu electrified the Levien Gymnasium crowd on Saturday, scoring a game-high 26 points while knocking down 7-of-11 from 3-point range en route to a 94-74 victory over Brown. She had nine points in the first quarter and nine more in the third, including a 4-point play that put the Lions up by 20 for the first time. Hsu finished the afternoon 9-of-14 from the floor, adding six boards, three assists and two steals.

Named to the Becky Hammon Award Midseason Watch List last week, Hsu leads all of NCAA Div. I women's basketball with 3.58 treys per game. Her 68 total threes are one off the national lead and her 3-point percentage (.436) is among the top 20. Hsu also leads the Ivy League in all three of those categories, as well as total field goals (113) and total points (338). She is second in the Ivies in scoring at 17.8 points per game.

Hsu has now been named Ivy League Player of the Week six times in her career. Her two others this season came on Dec. 5 and Dec. 12. She and Jaida Patrick have combined for five of this year's Ivy honors. She two MBWA selections this season are the first two of her career.

Kaitlyn Davis was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll. A senior from Norwalk, Connecticut, Davis had 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds against the Bears, also adding four assists and a steal. Her effort on the glass helped the Lions outrebound Brown, 49-26, and dominate in second-chance points, 26-7.

Columbia (16-3, 5-1 Ivy) hosts its annual Pride Game this Saturday at 2 p.m. against Dartmouth (2-18, 0-6 Ivy). The first 500 fans will receive free sunglasses and one student will go home with a JBL Speaker.
