Cross country, volleyball, men's golf hit the road
NEW YORK — Three Columbia athletics programs are featured in this week's edition of Lions on the Road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.
CROSS COUNTRY
The cross country program is back in action this weekend, with two meets to close out the 2023 regular season on Friday morning. The Lions will be sending a portion of the women's team to compete at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite, hosted by the Badgers in Madison, which will begin at 12:30 p.m. Meanwhile, back at Van Cortlandt Park, the rest of the Lions will be competing in the ECAC/IC4A Championships which will begin at 9:30 a.m. Columbia will look to build upon its impressive performance at the Mets XC Championships last weekend, which saw the men finish in first place led by NCAA Cross Country Runner of the Week Matt Gatune who won gold with a time of 24:43.99.

Volleyball will hit the road for the first time during the conference season this weekend, traveling to take on Princeton and Penn. It will be the Lions' second road trip of the season, and the first time they are leaving New York state for a set of matches. Columbia hopes to pick up its first Ivy League victory of the season this weekend, and first overall win since September 9. Hailee Watts and Eva Atkins will look to continue their strong play, leading the Lions with 104 and 103 kill on the season, respectively.

The men's golf team wraps up the fall 2023 season this Sunday and Monday at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament will be hosted at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. The Lions have had an impressive academic year to date, winning two of their three tournaments and finishing second in the other. Two weeks ago, they bested the 10-team field at the annual Columbia Autumn Invitational at Lake Placid Club. The Lions (-3) defeated Dartmouth (+6) by nine shots and senior Nathan Han finished runner-up individually. It was Han's third top-10 in as many outings this season, which includes winning The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red (Sept. 9-10). DJ Francey has also won an event this fall at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate (Sept. 16-17).
