NEW YORK — Sophomore Matt Gatune of the Columbia cross country team was named NCAA Cross Country Runner of the Week for his performance this past weekend at the Mets Cross Country Championships.
Gatune was dominant in the 8k, earning a first place finish with a time of 24:43.99 which was nearly four full seconds faster than the next competitor.
The native of Woodside, Delaware led the Lions to a first place overall finish in the event as well, as the men scored 29 points while the next lowest score was Seton Hall with 93.
The Lions are back at it this weekend, as both the men and women wrap up the regular season. On Friday, the women will compete in the Nuttycombe Invite hosted by Wisconsin, while the men will compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.
