NEW YORK — Four Columbia athletics programs are featured in this week's edition of Lions on the Road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.
VOLLEYBALL
The Lions earned their first Ivy League victory of the season last Saturday afternoon with a road win over the Cornell Big Red, and will look to ride that momentum into a two-match road trip this weekend. Hailee Watts led the way for Columbia, smashing 13 kills en route to the victory. Anna Gioranidi had a career afternoon, tallying a career-high 11 kills along with a career-high 13 digs to secure her first career double-double. The Lions will look to keep things going against Dartmouth on Friday and Harvard on Saturday, two teams in the middle of the pack in the Ivy League standings.

The Lions are back on the road to take on Yale at the Yale Bowl Saturday afternoon. Columbia is coming off a 20-9 defeat at Dartmouth and will be looking for its first Ivy League and road win of the season against the Bulldogs, who check in at 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Ancient Eight. Columbia is still leading the nation in scoring defense (12.3) and red zone defense (55.6%). Quarterback Joe Green made his season debut against the Big Green, completing 25-of-41 passes for 239 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Senior linebacker Anthony Roussos posted his fourth double-figure tackle game of the season and ranks No. 12 in FCS in solo tackles per game (5.8).

The Lions (3-11, 0-6) close out the 2023 season with a pair of matches in New Hampshire this weekend and look to snap a six-game losing streak. Columbia is 10-5 all-time against the Big Green (5-9, 1-5) and have earned three-straight one-goal victories against Dartmouth. The Lions square off against New Hampshire for a third consecutive season. Columbia has dropped both of the previous meetings in the series.
Mckenzie Bloom leads the team with five goals this season and is tied with Lindsey Yu for the lead in points with 11. Katie Wimmer is tied for second among Ivy League goalkeepers with 79 saves this season. Maya Walker has a team-leading 16 shots on goal with Anabelle Brodeur and Yu tied for second in that category with 15.

Women's soccer will wrap up its regular season schedule Saturday at Princeton for a 4 p.m. game. The Lions are coming off a dominating 4-0 win over Yale last Saturday on senior day as four seniors scored in the win. Madi Pilla, Kat Jordan, Kendall McBride and Nata Ramirez each found the net. Senior goalkeeper Paige Nurkin registered three saves in the clean sheet and was recognized as the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her performance in the game.
The Lions will be playing for the last spot in the Ivy League Tournament on Saturday. Columbia is currently tied for fourth place in the league standings with Dartmouth. The Lions will be looking for a result at Princeton, while Dartmouth will be on the road at Brown for the regular season finale.
