Alexander Hedge ’19CC Wins Two Gold Medals at Pan American Games

Hedge takes gold in men’s pair and mixed eight with USA

SANTIAGO, Chile — Alexander Hedge '19CC won gold medals with Team USA in the men's pair and mixed eight races at the 2023 Pan American Games at Laguna Grande this week.

Hedge and Ezra Carlson won the men's pair on Monday by open water, finishing with a time of 6:35.16. Team USA placed in front of Uruguay (6:38.82) and Mexico (6:38.98) on the medal stand.

On Wednesday in the first mixed eight final in Pan American Games history, Hedge and USA raced to gold with a time of 5:54.26. The hosts Chile finished second and Cuba came in third place. Chile crossed the finish line nearly a second after Team USA. 
 

Hedge recently raced at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. The Morristown, New Jersey native was part of the men's eight in Serbia.

At the 2023 World Rowing Championships, Hedge finished sixth in the eight. At the 2023 Pan American Games Qualification Regatta, he won gold in the pair and finished fourth in the four. Hedge was a first time senior team member for the 2023 World Rowing Championships last month.

At Columbia, Hedge rowed at the stroke positions for the Varsity Eight in the EARC Sprints and IRA National Championships his senior year. He rowed with the Varsity Eight for three years as a Lion and was a member of the 2016 IRA All-Academic Team.
