HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — For the second year in a row, the Columbia men's golf team concluded its fall campaign by hosting an exhibition against Trinity College Dublin. The two teams squared off Friday at Saint Andrew's Golf Club.
The friendly competition featured four matches worth one point each. Four total points were available with ties to result in a half-point for each team. The format for the first nine holes of each match was better-ball, match play. The second nine holes were conducted in an alternate-shot format.
Columbia took the victory by a score of 3-1. Nathan Han and William Sung took the first point with a 5-and-4 victory over Trinity's Eoin O'Doherty and Tom Flanagan. Trinity leveled things up with a 1-up win in the 11:09 a.m. match featuring Mikey Mina Ronayne & Eoin Sullivan (Trinity) against Alvin Kwak and George Rubelsky (Columbia).
The Lions swept the final two matches to earn the victory. Wyatt McGovern and Darren Pang (Columbia) took a 2-up win against Sam Gammell and Andrew Fraser. The final pairing featured DJ Francey and Columbia's Director of Golf Rich Mueller squaring off against Jan Balik and Jack Flanagan (Trinity). Francey and Mueller won the match, 1-up.
"Just as last year, this was a really fun way to bring our team together, welcome back Trinity and put a nice end to the fall season," Mueller commented. "There was a lot of camaraderie on the golf course."
Columbia begins its spring championship season Feb. 17-18 at the Savannah Harbor Invitational.
